My spouse cannot get away from work during the day. Can we schedule our appointment for 7:00pm one evening?

As long as I have an opening on the day that you would like to schedule, 7:00pm is not a problem.

Which is better, a Will or a trust?

That depends. We will discuss your particular circumstances at our first meeting in order to make that determination.

My spouse passed away last month. Do I need to do anything about the estate?

It depends. There are many different types of probate and needs with regard to an estate. I would suggest that we meet to discuss your specific situation and then a decision can be made as to what, if anything, needs to be done.

My brother and I believe that our mother needs a Power of Attorney. Can you help with that?

I do not feel comfortable meeting with you in my home. Can we meet somewhere else?

Absolutely! I have met clients at Starbuck’s, Braum’s, Dairy Queen, Henry’s Ice Cream, the gym, my client’s place of employment and at my client’s church. We should be able to work out a location that works for both of us. Also, sometimes, I may not feel comfortable meeting with you in your home and may suggest an alternative location on my own.

My husband and I live in McKinney. Will you really come to our home?

As long as you are within 25 miles of my home computer, I will come to your home. I have traveled farther. However, that is at my discretion and there may be an additional charge for fuel. I would tell you about any additional charges up front before I make the trip.

Yes!

Can you tell me how much this is going to cost me?

Contact me to request that information. I understand that you do not want to waste your time any more than I do if the fee I charge exceeds your expectations. However, I feel that my fees are very reasonable, especially given the convenience factor.

How do we get the documents signed? Don’t we have to have witnesses and a notary?

I will be the notary. You will need to have two witnesses present at the signing. The witnesses can be friends, neighbors, co-workers or fellow church members. Family and those named in the documents cannot be a witness. I will give you more specific information about who can act as a witness when the time comes.

How do I get started?

If you have decided you are ready to proceed with getting your Will, Powers and Directive prepared, then download my Client Worksheet Will, Powers and Directives. Each person in your household who would like to have some or all of these documents prepared needs to complete a separate worksheet. After you have the worksheet(s) completed, contact me so we can set up a date and time to meet. At that meeting, we will go over the information you provide, I will answer any questions you might have, a fee agreement will be signed and the fee paid. Drafts of the documents will be prepared and delivered to you sometime in the next week or two for your review. Once all is correct, we will set up a date and time to get everything signed.

If you need assistance with a probate matter, please download and complete the Client Worksheet Probate. After you have that done, please contact me so that we can set up a date and time to meet to determine the best way to proceed. You will need to have the original Will of the decedent (if there is one) along with a death certificate and an informal inventory of the assets and liabilities of the estate at that meeting.
